Día de los Muertos, the Mexican tradition of honouring the dead takes place on Nov. 1st and 2nd. The origin is the same as Halloween, which stems from the Christian feast of All Hallows' Day dedicated to remembering the dead, including martyrs and saints.

Like all things Mexican, Día de los Muertos is colourful. It's a celebration that often involves painted skulls like these sugar miniatures I saw in the creative crafts room at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, Texas last weekend. There's also a contemporary Day of the Dead exhibit from local artisans at the Center.
